Adventures
© Music and Lyrics by Annika Jayne
I'd like to go on adventures with you
Explore paths unseen, find something new
With an open mind and curiosity
Let's become one with the sky and the sea
We could leave tomorrow at dawn
Boldly go out, see what we stumble upon
We may find surprises along the way
Discover new treasures each and every day
Let's pack our bags
Let our dreams be our maps
Let our heart be our compass
The needle will point
To where we're meant to go
The wind will guide us
We'll go where it blows
We may find castles with old wooden doors
Where cats are sunbathing on the walls
We might discover deserted tracks
Let's see where they lead, let's see what waits ahead
Who knows what else we might find
Always go forward, leave nothing behind
In golden sunlight, in silvery rain
Everything shines, nothing's ever in vain
Let's pack our bags
Let our dreams be our maps
Let our heart be our compass
The needle will point
To where we're meant to go
The wind will guide us
We'll go where it blows
As much as Annika loves to travel through books, she also loves to travel in real life. In fact, she likes to think of life itself as a journey and an adventure.
"My mind always wants to go on adventures and experience and discover new things," she says. "So I wrote this song, which is about seeing life as a journey and an adventure, rather than having fixed goals. It's about exploring, letting go, getting lost and finding new paths. Letting go of fixed ideas is one of the most comforting things I know. Cats teach us how to do that every day. They go out into the world not caring what might go wrong or what anyone might think of them. If they want to sunbathe on a wall, they just do it."
The song also reminds us that there is beauty in everything if we choose to see it, as Annika sings "in golden sunshine, in silvery rain, everything shines, nothing's ever in vain".
Needless to say, Annika is also a huge Indiana Jones fan. Although this song isn't so much about chasing Nazis or supernatural phenomena, there's also a wink at Indy's nature as an explorer and adventurer, his philosophy of life, and the way he looks at the world.
