A Voice Like Morning Dew

© Music and Lyrics by Annika Jayne

Now and then the clouds come rolling in
And it seems like the rain has come to stay
There’s no piece of blue sky
There’s just a million shades of grey

And the sky looks like a heavy veil
Like a wall that I can’t push away
Rainbows are hiding but
Melanie brightens up my day

She has a voice like morning dew
A new beginning shining through
A voice that soars on fairies’ wings
Touching flowers as she sings
As soft as a butterfly
Touching my heart as it flies by
Touching my heart as it flies by

She tells me each cloud has a different shape
And flowers are growing in the rain
The sky’s painting pictures
So unique in ways no one can explain

She has a voice like morning dew
A new beginning shining through
A voice that soars on fairies’ wings
Touching flowers as she sings
As soft as a butterfly
Touching my heart as it flies by
Touching my heart as it flies by

Des milliers d'étoiles
Brillent dans ses chansons
Mon âme sort du dédale
Avec sa voix à l’horizon

She has a voice like morning dew
A new beginning shining through
A voice that soars on fairies’ wings
Touching flowers as she sings
As soft as a butterfly
Touching my heart as it flies by
Touching my heart as it flies by

This song is dedicated to Melanie Horsnell. "If you don't know her, do yourself a favour and listen to her beautiful music here: melaniehorsnell.bandcamp.com " says Annika enthusiastically.

Annika spontaneously wrote this song to help Melanie with her crowdfunding campaign in September 2023 and just as spontaneously decided to include it as a bonus track on the album. Do you agree with what she says about Melanie's voice? "As you can see from the lyrics, Melanie's voice is very comforting to me, so this song definitely belongs on an album full of comfort songs!" says Annika. "Of course I didn't write this song on any guitar," she explains, "I wrote it on my classical guitar, which I named Melanie - after Melanie Horsnell. And of course that's one of the guitars I used for the recording!"

Just in case you're wondering, Annika is referring to her favourite album by Melanie The Cloud Appreciation Society (listen here: melaniehorsnell.bandcamp.com/album/the-cloud-appreciation-society-album) as well as her favourite song in French by Melanie called Étoiles (Stars) (listen here: melaniehorsnell.bandcamp.com/album/dans-la-mer-aussi-il-y-a-des-toiles-album).

Annika would like to thank François Maillard  for helping her with the bridge in French. Merci!
